Finally finished sewing the landscape pieces for 'California Poppies'. This is a large undertaking! Next step will be to assemble these with the sky pieces and create the landscape. I look forward to sharing the finished piece! Should be about 20 sq. ft. (5' wide x 4' long).
This will end up being about 3' wide x 2.5' long, providing I sew some more pieces. If not, it'll end up being about 2' x 2'. These are pieces that were intended to be used in 'California Poppies' but I changed my mind about some of the palette.
The pieces are now in place, and the final size will be about 2' x 2'. Next I will bind the edges and fashion a way to hang it. Fabric from six different shirts ended up being used, with a different solid color backing each. The pieces were grabbed at random (mostly), and sewn down whichever side I thought looked best with the neighboring plaid/color. I have enough fabric for two or three more this size/style.
Shown here are the pieces for a small wool wall hanging, half of the fabric coming from Pendleton shirts. I took the sleeves from five different shirts, cut them into triangles, and backed each with a different solid color wool. Next I will layer them in the style of shingles or fish scales. I have plenty of the shirts left over for future projects!
These are the pieces that will comprise the sky. They will be separated and then randomized and laid down like shingles.
This is what I'm currently working on in the studio. It's a wool wall hanging that will end up being approximately 5' wide by 4' tall. The colors are inspired by the California coast, with sagebrush and fennel and poppies, etc. I will post pictures of the steps along the way.
